Understanding the K-1 Fiancé(e) Visa Process
The K-1 visa allows a foreign fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen to enter the United States for the purpose of marriage. Here are the essential facts:
Form I-129F Petition
The U.S. citizen files Form I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiancé(e)) with USCIS. Couples must provide evidence they met in person within two years of filing, unless meeting would violate cultural customs or cause extreme hardship.
Background Checks
USCIS conducts background checks on the U.S. citizen petitioner, including searches of the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC) protection order database.
Consular Processing
